My thoughts on Sandboy!

Updated: Oct 3, 2018

As many of you might know, the episode Sandboy (Season 2, Episode 19) just came out recently. After watching it, I wanted to give you guys my little grain of sand on the episode. There are so many things happening in this episode that are worth mentioning, but I didn't want to bore you guys. Here are my favorites...

Warning: Season 2 spoilers! (If you haven't watched Sandboy yet, go ahead and watch it, then come back and read this!)

The episode begins in a really amusing manner, with Marinette laughing at Chat Noir memes on her tablet. I really love how this shows that Marinette is just like all of us and likes a good Chat Noir meme. Another interesting thing about this episode is learning that Kwamis have cycles which are somewhat like birthdays, only each Kwami cycle lasts several hundred human years, as explained by Tikki.

One of my favorite parts of the episode was seeing a few of the characters' worst nightmares. I know, it sounds weird, but some of their nightmares were actually pretty funny! Take Mr. Dupain-Cheng, for example, he had a deathly fear of being eaten by a piece of dough! Marinette's worst nightmare, on the other hand, was Adrien rejecting her for Chloe. Later on in the episode we see that Chat Noir's fear is Ladybug treating him as an incompetent nobody and rejecting him. While discussing their fears with Chatte Bleu, she pointed out that Adrien and Chat Noir have different fears according to their different personalities. If that's not awesome character creation, I don't know what is.

An awesome parallel between Chat Noir and Marinette is both of their fears revolve around being rejected by the person they love the most. Was this done on purpose? Probably. Am I fangirling about it? Of course!

The episode had its fair share of comedy, with gigantic dinosaurs roaming around Paris, Master Fu beating away his nightmare with a pillow, and Adrien thinking that Plagg was turned into a sock. It also had some deep moments, like how Adrien's fear was being trapped with no escape. Chatte Bleu noticed that the reason why Adrien lets Plagg do pretty much whatever he wants is because Adrien has such little freedom. He doesn't want anyone else to ever have to feel so restricted.

In the end, we see that the akuma victim was nothing but a poor child who'd been watching something scary way past his bedtime. Chatte Bleu and I both agreed that this episode had so many lessons wrapped in there: Ask before you do things (or else Hawk Moth might figure out where you live), and don't watch TV whenever you want (or you could get akumatized), to name a few. In my humble opinion, that last one wasn't just for the kids, it was for the parents too! For all the Miraculous Parents out there, watch your kiddos! All in all, this was a fantastic episode.

Bonus: Can we talk about how deeply it mattered to Ladybug that Chat Noir thought highly of her? For me, that just goes to show just how much Marinette cares about Chat Noir as her most trusted ally and wants him to think highly of her, quite possibly because she thinks rather highly of him as well. Oh and, "You're the lady of my dreams."? Eee! That is the cutest line ever!!!

Thanks for reading! Gotta bounce!
