Don't get mad, you'll become easy prey for the akuma. For those who don't know, Hawk Moth is the main villain of the series. He uses evil butterflies to emotinally manipulate angry and/or sad people for jewels that will grant him a wish. But even though he is the main villain--mostly in the shadows--,he has made a some interesting decisions since the show started. This has caused me to ask myself and other people in the fandom, is Hawk Moth a mastermind or a just a moron? Spoilers for the episodes: Collector, Gigantitan, Lady Wi-Fi, and Gorizilla. I don't know about you, but when I think Hawk Moth, the first thing that comes to mind are his mistakes. Most notably, when he akumatized a baby. To be fair, it wasn't completely his fault, but he could've given him better powers to so he can easily grab the miraculous. Speaking of which, the biggest one of his failing for me is when he told Lady Wi-Fi to get Ladybug to use her lucky charm instead of getting her earings. It's the equivalent of having a roasted chicken on a silver platter then asking for chicken nuggets. Yes, Hawk Moth can make mistakes. But when you're the brain behind all these baddies, you have to be three steps ahead of everyone. Although, I would be remiss if I didn't mention some of Hawk Moth's smarter moments. The most stand out moment that everyone seems to remember is that Hawk Moth's the person closest to finding out Chat Noir's identity. But then he put on his Lois Lane contact lenses and became blind to reality. Although he didn't find out, we should give him a round of applause. The second stand out moment for me is when he akumatized himself (Gabriele Agreste) to throw Ladybug and Chat Noir off his tail. And he would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids!!! So, to answer my question, Hawk Moth is human. He succeeds, but he also makes mistakes. All masterminds make mistakes (but all morons can have a smart idea). Look at it this way, Lex Luthor didn't take over Metropolis on the first try. So, Hawk Moth can take all the time he wants to get the miraculous. Now I'm going to hide from the akumatized readers.
